While a number of positions are uncontested, such as York County coroner Pam Gay seeking re-election, here is a look at some of the contested races in the upcoming primary: Nine judicial candidates will compete for three open seats on the bench because of the retirements of Common Pleas Judges Thomas H. Here are the candidates:• Amber Anstine Kraft,a family law attorney at Anstine & Sparler.• Tim Barker, a chief deputy prosecutor in the York County District Attorney’s Office.• Chuck Hobbs, a managing partner at Hobbs & Hunter LLC who practices family law.• Jim Mann, deputy chief counsel to the Pennsylvania House Republican Caucus.• Matt Menges, a shareholder at Trinity Law.• Kathleen Prendergast, who was appointed to the York County Court of Common Pleas in 2016.• Sandra Thompson, owner of the Law Office of Sandra Thompson LLC.• Peter Vaughn, owner of the Vaughn Law Firm LLC.• Clyde Vedder, a partner at Morris & Vedder who’s a civil and criminal law litigator. The candidates are: Michael Caum, Michael Ebersole and Lindy Sweeney.
Five district judge seats will be contested, and all of the candidates have cross-filed.
Tuesday was the last day for Democratic and Republican candidates to file to run for office in the May 16 primary. All of the judicial candidates cross-filed, meaning they will show up on both the Democratic and Republican ballots. They are: District Court 19-1-03 (Hanover): Incumbent Dwayne Dubs will face challenger Christopher Topper.
A full list of those running for office is available on the York County Elections and Voter Registration website. The top three vote-getters for each party will appear on the ballot in November. District Court 19-3-04 (Shrewsbury Township): Three candidates are running for the seat, which is open because of the resignation of Jeff Joy.
